Background Information
In the 2003 version of "The Vagina Monologue," Eve Ensler invited each V-DAY production to insert two additional "monologues" in addition to those supplied by her. Many people requested intersex monologues to "plug in" to the existing production, so we provided a couple. The intersex monologues were performed at dozens of campuses that we are aware of, plus (we're sure) other schools that we did not know about.
Unfortunately, the 2004 edition of "The Vagina Monologues" apparently does not allow "plug-in" monologues (although we haven't actually seen the script). But that does not mean that there can't be any more monologues; it just means that they cannot be performed as part of "The Vagina Monologues." In fact, some people have told us that they are performing a whole new set of original "monologues" separate from "The Vagina Monologues" and that they would like to include intersex stories.
We provide the monologues below for educational purposes as well as for inclusion in any "alternative" monologues that you may be producing. Permission is granted for campus V-DAY groups to perform them on the condition that they use the monologues to raise the awareness and funds to fight violence against women and girls (and intersex people), and that they do so in compliance with any production contract with V-DAY.

Should Non-Intersex Actors Perform Intersex Monologues?
Some people have asked us if we find it offensive or disrespectful to have non-intersex actors perform these intersex monologues. The short answer is no: actors often do not have the exact same experiences as the monologues they perform--it's just part of acting. Not all intersex people experience the same things in life either. While we would like to see more intersex performers reading their own monologues as well as other peoples', we do not feel that one needs to be intersex to perform an intersex person's monologue.
