Hello everyone!
Warm welcome to those of you who signed up to receive ipdxWIRE, the electronic newsletter from Intersex Initiative Portland (ipdx) at our table at V-DAYs at Portland State University and Portland Community College. We went from zero to 74 subscribers in just a month or so, which is incredible. Thanks for your interest + support! - ek
## ipdxWIRE: 03/07/2003
This is a message from Intersex Initiative Portland (ipdx). Please feel free to forward to your friends--and do encourage them to sign up themselves at http://www.ipdx.org/ The instruction for unsubscribing is found at the bottom.
1) Speaker's Bureau training set for March 22
We're holding our first Speaker's Bureau training on March 22. The one-day training will be held in Portland, but our friends from other cities are encouraged to join. If you are interested in learning more about intersex activism and help raise the awareness of intersex issues, this is an opportunity for you. Please tell your friends who might be interested too! Those of you who have already expressed interest in the training will hear from us soon.
In case you are wondering: no, you do not have to be an intersex person to be a presenter--this is for our allies too. Tara and I are currently working on developping a "speaker's handbook" and the training curriculum, and it will help you become a better ally even if you personally do not experience the issues being addressed.
Speaker's Bureau is a program of ipdx that trains our volunteers to give basic presentations about intersex activism for college classrooms and community organizations.
2) Intersex Studies course info available online
This summer, I (Emi) will be teaching the course "Intersexuality: An Interdisciplinary Exploration" for the second time at Portland State University. The course, offered through Women's Studies department for four credit hours, will be held M-Th at 1:00-3:20pm from June 23 thru July 17. You can see the registration information by going to PSU's Summer Session web site and selecting "Women's Studies" from the list at:
