1) Update to the intersex article in Just Out
With the permission of the author and Just Out, we have now posted the Jan. 17 article about intersex written by Gary Morris. I believe that you can still pick up a copy of Just Out if you live near Portland, but if not, you can find the article here:
http://www.ipdx.org/media/20030117-justout.html
Intersex ally Francie Nevill shared with us the letter she sent to the editors of Just Out which congratulates them on publishing the wonderful article, while raising a very important point regarding representation--in particular, the use of a medical photo showing an intersex child's naked body with hir hands held down and face covered with a big black dot. We are hoping that Just Out will publish the letter for others to read, but meanwhile we are posting it here:

To read further about the ethical problems with the display of "freakish" bodies as anonymous and faceless, please see Alice Dreger's insightful article, "Jarring bodies: Thoughts on the display of unusual anatomies" in the Winter 2000 issue of _Perspectives in Biology and Medicine_.
2) Help us raise awareness at your local V-DAY event!
There was a major overhaul at V-DAY's web site, and now you can find out about your local V-DAY events easily! Check out this site:
http://events.vday.org/
Isn't this great? Now, go to this web site, find out who is organizing your local V-DAYs, and please (kindly) ask them to include intersex in their agenda--encourage them to visit our "Intersex Resources for V-DAY" site, set up just for them:
http://www.ipdx.org/vday2003/
Also, ipdx will be tabling at two Portland V-DAY productions: Portland Community College (Feb. 13-15) and Portland State University (Feb. 19, 20, & 22). If you can help table at one or more of these nights, please contact us--if there are enough volunteers, we'll see if we can make appearance at more places (Birthingway College of Midwifery sounds like a perfect venue that could use intersex information...)
3) Emi's article published in _Women's Studies Quarterly_
We've just received the latest issue of _Women's Studies Quarterly_ (Fall/Winter 2002 issue) which includes the article "From social construction to social justice: Transforming how we teach about intersexuality" by Emi Koyama and Lisa Weasel. This is the paper derived from the same project that has spawned "Intersex Teaching Kit," currently distributed by Intersex Society of North America for $85 apiece. You can read the article in the "Academic Resources" section of ipdx's web site.

Of course, how in the world "Women's Studies QUARTERLY" manages to publish a "FALL/WINTER" issue remains mysterious...
That's it for now!
